Blog of a veggie lady who can't stay in one place for too long, loves to dumpster dive, loves to craft and can rant about feminism for hours! Just little notes and photos from my travels and the qwirky, fun, arty and ridiculous things I've seen! (and things I've found in bins.)
All I’ve achieved today is argue with a homophobic ableist arsehole on facebook.
I should get on with some work.
But now I’m just mad. Uuuuuuggggggh.
(The picture below was a picture she posted the day before of a kid with no arms, using his feet as hands, and looking very happy and cute. Hypocrite.)
I’m at a loss…she is such a bitch.
Maybe Im wrong (and I hope I am) but it looks like KS didn’t see it a big deal what KM originally said, until KM offended her personally.
I mean to say, KS didn’t want to unfriend KS over the offensive ablelist bullshit- until KM then personally insulted her with the anti-gay thing
Yeah, they both seem to think being offended over being mistaken for a disabled person was a normal reaction; KS just thought it was funny given the inspirational porn KM posts.
I already replied to queerhairyvag about this, but I genuinely didn’t think her horribly ableist attitude was funny at all. I started off wanting to point out that I thought what she’d said wasn’t right in a friendlier way than straight out telling her that her ableist attitude was sickening. However she quickly dug herself into a hole and that’s when I had to tell her without any friendly language that she was being just plain offensive. Also as I am not disabled myself I’m not so familiar with disabled issues and don’t always feel it’s right to get up on my high horse and to speak for a section of society that I’m not a part of as I feel that’s a little bit condescending. However I’m very familiar with issues of homophobia and know that when someone says what she said, you’re outright being a douchebag.
It wasn’t a case of me being personally insulted, it was just that she was proving herself to be completely ignorant of the power of her words and the damage her “funny” comments could cause in enabling people to see disabilities as a joke.
I have emailed her extensively about this and she is not seeing how either things she said were offensive, irritatingly.
But I want to emphasise that I really do not see any humour in what she posted, I just didn’t wanted to gently tell her that what she was posting wasn’t right. I’m very sorry if this has offended anyone. I appreciate that my choice of wording isn’t the best and can be misconstrued as offensive. I meant the worst comparison ever as in that Karen, rather than try and say something less damaging, goes all out and digs herself into a hole of showing herself to be a ridiculous homophobe as well as ableist which was the issue. I’ve had people say they read that as me saying being mistaken for disabled is worse than being mistaken as gay, and that is DEFINITELY not what I was aiming at. The idea of saying that and meaning it makes me feel sick.
