I’m reading How to Be a Woman by Caitlin Moran at the moment (generally, it’s pretty amazing, she seems to dismiss male feminists at time, but I guess that’s not who she’s trying to speak to through it, that’s not her experience and not her place to write from.  And I’m just being hyper critical), and this made me smile: “Because we need to reclaim the word ‘feminism’. We need the word ‘feminism’ back real bad. When statistics come in saying that only 29 per cent of American women would describe themselves as feminist - and only 42 per cent of British women - I used to think, What do you think feminism IS, ladies? What part of ‘liberation for women’ is not for you? Is it freedom to vote? The right not to be owned by the man you marry? The campaign for equal pay? ‘Vogue’, by Madonna? Jeans? Did all that good shit GET ON YOUR NERVES? Or were you just DRUNK AT THE TIME OF SURVEY?” Hell yes.  Bang fucking on.  I do genuinely think anyone who says they’re not a feminist just doesn’t really understand what it’s about and has been too effected and unquestioning of years of media mis-labelling.
